Journeyman Electrician Practice Exam 2026 – The All-In-One Guide to Exam Success!

The type of luminaire that is not permitted for installations in clothes closets is a pendant luminaire. This restriction is primarily due to safety concerns related to the heat generated by pendant fixtures. These fixtures hang from the ceiling, and if they are too close to clothing or other combustibles, there is an increased risk of fire.

Code requirements specify that lighting in clothes closets must be enclosed and not create a potential fire hazard by being an open fixture or hanging down in an area that could come into contact with items stored there. This means that fixtures like recessed luminaires or surface mount luminaires, which are mounted flush with the ceiling or wall and are often designed to accommodate safety in compact spaces, remain compliant with safety standards.

Understanding this regulation is crucial for electricians to ensure they adhere to the National Electrical Code (NEC) guidelines and promote safety in residential environments.
